The Religious Understanding in The Era of Aydinoğullari

Abstract

Aydınoğulları, who brought Islam and Turco-Islam identity to the western Anatolia at

the beginning of the 14th century, had been the only sovereign on the land nearly for 150 years.

Within this period, they built their own civilization and at the end their sovereignty was

brought to an end in 1426 by the Ottomans under the reign of Murad II. The religious

understanding of the Turcoman beys, who made the western Anatolia their new homeland

just after the Mongolian invasion, has so far been widely argued among the historians. It has

also been claimed that these Turcoman differently had a heterodox Islamic view from the

Seljuks of the cities and rural areas. In this work, this claim will be examined by looking the

period in context of Aydınoğulları.
